'Botswana Diamonds’ approach to exploration is simple, but rigorous – "go where the geology is best, go where there are or were mines and remember that you cannot find a mine in an office."

Operations in Africa

Our focus is Botswana, the best diamond address in the world, and home to some of the world’s greatest diamond mines such as Jwaneng and Orapa. We believe there are more diamond mines to be found in Botswana.

Botswana Diamonds (BOD) announced a JV with Alrosa in August 2013; following an 18 month collaboration as part of a technical cooperation agreement. The aim is to utilise Alrosa’s technological expertise in order to identify high potential targets on BOD’s extensive database.

The partnership has dramatically increased the amount of early-stage exploration work that BOD is able to undertake.  New ground has been applied for and awarded.  Further targets are being generated.  The focus is currently on licences PL206, PL207 and PL210.

Alrosa is the world’s leading diamond company producing over 32 million carats annually from 17 producing mines. The mines are mainly in Siberia apart from a 33% stake in the Catoca mine in Angola.

In addition to our work with Alrosa, BOD has a JV agreement with Siseko, a Botswana company which holds 13 licences in the Gope area.  This ground is further joint ventured with BCL, a large Botswana mining company. BOD has a net 15% carried interest through feasibility study.  Drilling commences in Q2 2015.
